2009 Health Care Hero Honorees Announced

The Idaho Business Review has announced the recipients of its 2009 Idaho Health Care Heroes awards. Denise Langston-Groves, Executive Director of the Adams County Health Center and Idaho Primary Care Association Board President is one of the honorees in the Health Care Innovator categories.

Adams County Health Center, located in Council, Idaho, is a Federally Qualified Health Center, that provides high quality health care services to residents of Adams County and the surrounding area. Ms. Langston-Groves has been instrumental in the growth of the Adams County Health Center since its designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center December 1, 2004.

Council Community Hospital/Nursing Home closed March 15, 2002 leaving a freestanding rural health clinic. The clinic struggled with providing health care services to the community, but it was clear that the clinic could not survive without adequate funding. With Federally Qualified Health Center designation, Adams County Health Center is able to offer health care services including primary and preventive health care, obstetric care, primary and preventive dental health care, psychosocial rehabilitation and case management, x-ray, laboratory and telepharmacy. All types of patients receive services at Adams County Health Center, including those with private insurance coverage, Medicare/Medicaid, and those who are underinsured or uninsured. Services are provided on a sliding fee scale based on household size and income.

Now in its fourth year, the Health Care Heroes program recognizes the invaluable contributions made by individuals and organizations in the health care field statewide. A total of 30 honorees in 10 categories were selected for awards. Categories include: Community Outreach, Educator, Elder/Hospice Care, Emergency Services, Health Care Innovator, Health Care Professional, Nurse, Physician, Rehabilitation Care and Volunteer. Joining the Idaho Business Review in this program is co-sponsor Idaho State University and Pacificsource Health Plans.
